ESTERDAD Program

Time Frame: 2017 till 2019      

Location: Beirut

Target Group: Lebanese, Iraqi and Syrian archaeologists and lawyers

Objectives:

To establish specialized professional networks in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq to investigate and disrupt the trafficking of cultural objects and to work closely with law enforcement and juridical authorities to secure the repatriation of trafficked objects.

Outcome:  More than 100 professionals trained and 14 training of trainers.

Funder:  Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon.

Conventions & Laws related to the illicit trafficking in Antiquities

In order to protect cultural properties, several international conventions were elaborated, signed and ratified by different countries, in addition to local laws. Below are the most relevant conventions & local laws for Lebanon, Syria & Iraq, related to the illicit trafficking of antiquities:
